The Journey: for goodness self

This is the platform in which I am willing to examine myself. The end goal is to authentically live my philosophies that promote human consciousness and eradicate the contradictions that I find within my own dichotomy of self.

This is where the journey begins. This is the public self giving permission for the private self to be exposed. The reconciliation of the duality of self.

Inside words and pictures mesh to illustrate a world of choice and consequences, where scrutiny does not hamper the fluidity or validity of thought. A picture of the self is formed through its own perspective of where it think it stands in the world. Am I conservative? Am I liberal? Am I believer in God? Am I vested in the power of self? No matter how far the thoughts go, the end is reassurance that who I think I am is still intact. Self will find the evidence to prove its worth. But it must confront evidence that is contrary to who it thinks it is in order to be balanced.. in thoughts and deeds.

The private self is free to believe and value ideas that increase its' own sense of worth. It can chase thoughts down rabbit holes leading to new ideas or new perspectives of old ideas. Since beliefs are not always based in facts, but more often formed from social cues picked up in our environments, testing the validity of our beliefs can be a challenge. After all, how can you know when your logic is off? What does it take to remove barriers that prevent the evolution of conscious thought? How do we discover the errors of our ways?

The public self can be a vehicle to test and identify the foundations of our thoughts. Yes, the public self can also be a facade that is completely disconnected from private thoughts; however, it can also serve as a catalyst to reconcile discrepancies between what we think we know about ourselves and world and how we actually interact in the world.

This is where my journey begins. This is the platform in which I am willing to examine myself. The end goal is to authentically live my philosophies that promote human consciousness and eradicate the contradictions that I find within my own dichotomy of self. Rooting out non-beneficial core thoughts will lead to a fuller, more connected life.  Feel free to come along. Just be willing to do your own work.

With all it takes

It takes more than courage

To face and overcome

It takes more than love

To trust and feel secure

It takes more than hope

To see and act the plan

It takes more than time

To build a lifetime with a man ❤️

Mental Emancipation: Perspectives vs. Truth

What kills me is we know race ain’t even real

Still it holds us to the fire

Burns like steel

You can’t drop it

To the ground

Ill-fitted garment

Got you bound up

Yet won’t change

It’s a construct

Socio-economic mind fuck

Make you buy

Sell

Trade

A thought

Created to justify inhumanity

Categorize who could legally suffer brutality

Not a real thing in human sense

Oracles perplexed

Cus yet it is

Day in and day out

News stations

Book pages

Tears on multi-colored faces

No doubt hate is palpable

Beats you to belief

Dress you up in skins

no soul

Lash your goodness

crush your strength just so

The lazy wicked

reap fruits

not sown

It ain’t even who you are

Called out by thy country’s names

Young in time frame

Dominant in a taker’s mind

Thieves think

Everyone steals

National identity based on trend

Blood and bond of history

The weapon

Of erasers

clutched in enemy’s hands

But it kills me that you believe it’s true

The lie constructed high

Your mind

accepts and justifies

Systems built

on

In

Between

Lies

Wisdom cries

You can kill God in your head

He still won’t die

Truth be told

Pour out promises

Waiting on the day that freedom reigns
Growing up broke on promised land

Mixed matched noodles in spaghetti

Peanut butter, bread, but no jelly

Mother Hubbard looking in the pantry

Light man plotting with the water

Toilet paper napkin from the corner

Netflix boosted from ya grandma

School clothes washed in the sink

Capless markers dry wit no ink

Hustle is the only way to think

Books piled high on the floor

Duty hand print on the door

Life full of lack wanting more

Dreams and delusions the same thing

Handful of Jokers, save one Queen

Waiting on the day that freedom reigns

Growing up broke on promised land

The middle of nowhere

In and out. In and out. I’m awed at the motion; the push outside towards nothing. Way beyond myself, I feel here and there. Still I sense that in actually nowhere.

A burble escapes my throat. Clip the cord. Light floods over and through me with a force blinds my eyes. Remove all sights. Nothing left to recognize, I’m not here and I’m not there. I’m nowhere.

Bird Box Review

Sometimes, there are things in the world that our minds cannot handle. Things that we simply cannot comprehend. The mere thought can drive us to madness. Suicide. Mayhem.

Bird Box by Josh Malerman is all about adapting to a changing world. Surviving an apocalyptic event means changing all the rules of how to survive ominous times.

Malorie and the other inhabitants of a “safe house” must blindly find a new way to live when a strange phenomenon sends the whole world behind locked doors and covered windows. Based on early news reports, people are going insane from the mere sight of something unknown. The best line of defense seems to be to simply not look, but for how long?

Using other senses and teamwork, the fateful companions develop processes to meet their daily needs and also keep fear at bay. Nevertheless, they are very aware that they cannot survive this way forever. The characters give us the contrast of prospectives between the eternal optimists (Tom) and the pragmatic realists (Don). The hopeful and the intellectual. Ingenuity and idleness.

Deeper than studying how strangers interact to form social rules in order to maintain some symbols of the old world order, two characters are also faced with birthing children months after being thrust into this new life of visual isolation. Can you be a good parent if you knowingly bring a child into a world of darkness? How do you raise children to be blind to evil, but still nurture their authentic sense of discovery? Can you teach them to fill in what they can’t see? Can you trust that they will never rebel and look at forbidden things?

Fuzz Take Aways

I wanted to read something that would kick off my spooky reading month. I asked the librarian for a suggestion and Bird Box was one of her top picks. She told me that she found that it was either a hit or a miss. I am glad that I have be it a read!

I found the book to be a real page turner! The chapters are fairly short, but cover each thought or dilemma in a concise way. The transition between the past and present was smooth and well connected. It did read to some degree like young adult fiction, but that is not necessarily a bad thing. I think the story is entertaining and thought provoking enough to reach both a young adult and adult audience.

I liked that the main character, Malorie, draws off of her experiences with Tom and Don to navigate the emotionally and physically dangerous waters towards a safer existence. That struggle between our faith that things will workout and our reasoning of all the ways things can go wrong is represented in the supporting characters.

Malorie’s dilemma was also a gentle reminder that we have to let go of certain perceptions, because their usefulness has simply expired. Previous circumstances required her to believe that what she could not see could not hurt her. Staying blind to facts can present its own dangers. The whole time, I wondered if she would be able to take the blinders off to see a new future for her and the children? It was worth finding out!

Rating

4 Star – I really enjoyed the book. I pulled an all-nighter, but there were a few small things that kept it from being outstanding. A very good read!
